Myra Peterson

Until you serve in the capacity of a desk officer, you never realize how many hours it takes to make things look easy and run smoothly.  Myra accomplished this all her 35 years.

Myra was elected President of the Rebekah Assembly of Idaho in October 1954.  With mingled feelings of humility and pride, she let our Fraternal Order, letting her light shine through the moon and seven stars, keeping the true spirit of fraternalism uppermost in our minds, with her motto reminding us "Be Ye Kind."  With the gentle touch of pink and green, the beauty of the pink rose, and the serenity of the Lord's Prayer, she had a truly successful year.

In April 1967, she was installed chairman of the Northwest Odd Fellow Association.

Myra received the Decoration of Chivalry, an honor bestowed on those who have been active in civic and benevolent activities in the community, and in doing so help those outside their family circle.  In 2000 she received the Rebekah Merit Jewel, honoring her for the 70 years of dedication to our Order.

Myra's life can be best described in one word, "Success."  As a successful person she loved and lived her life to the fullest.  She discovered and shared the strengths and talents that were uniquely her own.  She put her best into each task, and left each situation better than she found it.  She sought, and found what is beautiful in all people and in all things.  Therefore, her love and appreciation for all things of beauty is the way she lived her exemplary life.  She was gentle, patient, and devoted.  Her dedication to God, country, and all others was shown in all aspects of her life.

Myra B. Peterson was born September 1, 1912, in Rose Lake, Idaho.  Her parents were Jess and May Cyrene (Barnett) Waddell.  She attended grade school in Rose Lake, but then moved to Prescott, Washington, and there graduated from high school at the age of 16.  After graduation she returned to Coeur d' Alene where her parents were now residing.  For two years she took the daily bus commute to Spokane, to attend the Kinman Business College.  After graduation, she met and married Phillip Peterson.  They were married on November 1, 1935.  They resided at 1320 6th Street, most of their over 51 years together.  They owned, and Phil operated The Peterson Show Store, while Myra was a legal secretary for 38 years.  Most of those years were with the law firm of Philip Dolan.

Myra was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a 72-year member of Naomi No. 16, Lake City No. 10, LAPM, and Shepherd No. 43, LEA.

She is survived by many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by an infant daughter and husband, Phil.

Besides the joy of her dear family and friends, Myra was an avid country western fan, and of course, the Seattle Mariners games were never missed.  Basketball games wre much loved also, as well as the Utah Jazz Company.  Myra devoted much of her life to giving through the Rebekah Lodge.

Myra became a member of Naomi Rebekah Lodge on November 11, 1930.  Following in the footsteps of her grandmother and both her parents, she immediately became an active and dedicated member.  When Myra was small, she used to go to special meetings with her parents.  Living in Rose Lake, the mode of travel at that time in history was a steamboat.

During her 35 plus years as Secretary of Naomi, she added interest, and great enthusiasm to our meetings, with not only excellent minutes, but assistance to each Noble Grand.  Each year that Noble Grand was the recipient of a special program written by Myra depicting the highlights and accomplishments for the year of service.

Myra entered into eternal life on Saturday, March 9, 2002.  She will be missed by all who had the privilege to share life with her.  Her favorite prayer was the "The Lord's Prayer."

This Ceremony was performed by Naomi No. 16, honoring Past President Myra Peterson.  Sister Janette Weatherly, P.P., read the Eulogy.  The Sisters were all dressed in white.  They entered to the strains of "The Old Rugged Cross, " and formed a cross in the center of the room.  They then conducted a beautiful candle ceremony,
